The Clun Green Man

Monday 3 May

Monday is Clun Green Man day!

Come and see Clun's unique Green Man battle with the Frost Queen on the bridge to bring Spring to the Clun Valley.  Afterwards, browse dozens of stalls in the Castle grounds and be entertained by medieval sword fighting, maypole dancing, circus workshops, storytelling and duck racing.

12 noon: the Green Man enters Clun accompanied by the May Queen, Maypole Dancers, Morris Dancers, and Entertainers.

The famous “Battle on the Bridge”  follows.
If the Green Man does not defeat the Frost Queen,
there will be no summer in the Clun Valley!

Traditional May Fair opens in the grounds of Clun Castle (courtesy of English Heritage) with Green Man Fire & Drumming display on the hill, stalls and traditional craft demonstrations.

Battle re-enactments with Swords of Chivalry, Morris dancing with The Iron Men & Severn Gilders Morris from Ironbridge, strolling entertainers, jugglers, jesters, circus acts and workshops, exotic pets, maypole dancing, duck racing, beer tent and refreshments.

Good news: folk trio Whalebone will be back to play another free gig at this year's Craft Fair. They enjoy it; we love them!
